folk art puzzle box
This is a wonderful little puzzle or book box (either term would apply here). It's carved from a single block of wood, inlaid, punch decorated and has a lovely and unusual pillow shape. The various suits of playing cards are the motif, but this box is much largeer than a single deck. The old varnished has warmed the color overall and become crackly in places. The remains of an old paper label is on the bottom book edge and some paint is smeared on the spine edge.
6-3/8 inches tall and 3 inches deep.
